Director of Buying

ANINE BING is looking for a Director of Buying to join our Buying and Planning team in Los Angeles.

The Director of Buying sets the overall strategy and merchandise direction for the DTC business and develops the buying and selling strategies that drive ANINE BING to new heights of performance and profitability.

The ideal candidate understands the market landscape, brand positioning, and the ANINE BING customer. This person is agile in adapting to change and works collaboratively across departments to build trust and alignment. They excel in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and have strong communication skills for engaging with senior leadership. An entrepreneurial mindset and technical acumen are essential to thrive amid industry shifts and drive innovation.

This role is based at our Los Angeles HQ and reports to the VP of Buying & Planning.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Set clear seasonal buying strategies to drive growth and brand positioning.
  • Demonstrate product acumen and focus with an ability to curate and influence the fashion assortment.
  • Review budgets, receipts and sku plans with the planning team to ensure the proper product mix is created to meet customer needs and business goals.
  • Drive growth by partnering with the Merchandising team to help develop assortment strategies with respect to category split, store capacities, SKU count, breadth vs. depth, and new vs. carryover.
  • Understand market share opportunities and the competitive landscape.
  • Along with the planning team present the bottoms up hindsight, identify opportunities, risks, wins, misses, and develop associated action plans.
  • Manage career paths, development, and succession plans of the buying team.

Required Skills:

  • 10+ years of buying experience in the apparel industry, advanced contemporary or luxury experience a plus. Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of financial measurements, including sales, gross margin, inventory turn, ST%, and weeks of supply and how to impact them.
  • Resourceful when problem-solving and skilled in anticipating change in business trends.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, with a high proficiency in Excel.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain productive relationships with peers and cross-functional teams in an environment with shifting priorities and evolving changes

Compensation

  • The anticipated base salary range for this role is $120,000 - $150,000
